Abstract

This study aimed to analyze possible use of waste wood-based industry as a new alternative of material for construction industry. Pinus elliottii sawdust was inserted to concrete to replace sand, in 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% proportions. Fifteen specimens were molded, five to perform physical tests and ten to perform mechanical tests. Non-destructive tests were realized to determine dynamic modulus of elasticity with ultrasonic equipment. Static moduli of elasticity were estimated from the compressive strength of specimens, based on ABNT and ACI formulations. Results of mechanical tests showed a reduction of concrete strength as higher the sawdust content. Results do not indicate the use of concrete with sawdust for structural applications, however, this concrete may be used for applications in which high performance concrete is not needed. Keywords: Wood waste, Pinus elliottii, sand, concrete.
