COMPARISON OF STRENGHT COMPRESSION, MASS LOSS AND VISUAL AMONG CORRROSION INHIBITORS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE PRISMS
Abstract
The corrosion of the steel bars embedded in concrete structures is an important problem faced to ensure durability of constructions for a long period of time. One alternative to prevent corrosion of the steel bars is with the use of corrosion inhibitors: anodic, cathodic or mixed. The aim of this paper is to perform a comparison of strenght compression, mass loss and visual between reference prisms, without protection against corrosion, and prisms with three types of inhibitors: two mixed, one by impregnation of hardened concrete and other by putting an additive in fresh concrete; and an inhibitor for sacrificial anode, by previous painting the steel bars with zinc chromate. The results showed that the zinc chromate paint was more efficient, reducing up to 99.9% of mass loss, in rich composition, compared with the prism reference. It was also observed that the three inhibitors decreased the corrosion of steel bars, which can increase the durability of structures, obtaining an environmental and economic gain to society. Keywords: corrosion inhibitors; accelerated corrosion; durability.Downloads
