APPLICATIONS OF SPACE SYNTAX IN THE PLANNING OF URBAN MOBILITY
Abstract
The Theory of Space Syntax aims to understand the functioning of the relationship between the spatial configuration of the cities and social relationships that involve them, especially the flows and movements. A multidisciplinary approach is possible through the analysis of spatial-syntactic values, involving different areas of knowledge. The objective of this paper is to show, in this exploratory research, as this theory has been used for planning of urban mobility through Brazilian and international research in various branches, particularly in the movement of pedestrians and vehicles. Some properties of the analysis are presented, as accessibility, connectivity and global integration within the context of the natural movements and potential flows. Evaluation of more accessible areas or segregated, estimates of the volume of people and cars, and the effects of urban form in the transport performance and movement of people were some of the themes found, demonstrating the range of applications, limitations and opportunities offered. Keywords: Space syntax, urban mobility, transportation planning.Downloads
