New developmentalism is an approach that includes a large number of books, articles, and dissertations written in the last several years. The paper aims to bring a synthesis of the ideas that are associated with New Developmentalism. It shows New Developmentalism’s theoretical foundations and proposals for economic policy. In order to achieve such a goal, this paper shows the historical, political, and ideological context during the formative years of New Developmentalism. After that, a list (originally proposed by Bresser-Pereira) that brings the main characteristics of New Developmentalism is critically discussed. Then, similarities and differences between Original and New Developmentalism are examined.
