The reinvention of Malthus on the rebirth of environmentalism

Abstract

This paper represents an effort to characterize the specific contributions of a group of authors, all of them representing the so called "rebirth of the environmentalism�, at the end of the 1960´s and the beginning of the 1970's, as privileged cases of revival of the Malthusian thesis. We analyze the following aspects: a) the ways used to treat the environmental problems, b) the proposals for their solution, and c) the "thinking tradition� recovered by the main parts of this debate. Finally, we also examine the most substantive critical contributions to the neo-malthusian thesis at the time.
