Abstract

The Cerrado biome has global relevance for the conservation of biodiversity (MYERS et al., 2000), in addition to being important for the Brazilian economic development (IBGE, 2019b). The Legal Reserve (RL) area is one of the main legal mechanisms for the protection of native vegetation related to the conservationist use of the Brazilian rural space. This work carried out the analysis of the environmental compliance of the RL areas according to the minimum percentages required by art. 12 of Law Nº 12,651/2012 of 905,837 landholdings registered in the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) in the Cerrado biome. It was identified that 41,076,595.20 ha of RL would be needed to meet the minimum percentage required by art. 12 of Law Nº 12,651/2012 in the landholdings analyzed. However, 34,604,030.95 ha were delimited. 210,682 landholdings did not delimit any RL information in the CAR. Of those that delimited the RL, a deficit was identified in relation to the minimum area of 6,619,354.40 ha, in 292,164 landholdings, while 402,991 landholdings reached the minimum area required by art. 12 of Law Nº 12,651/2012, totaling 25,471,585.58 ha of RL, of which 4,057,021.71 ha represent a surplus to the minimum RL area required by law.
