Abstract

In a capitalist industrial urban context, the countryside schools are closed and their buildings abandoned and / or demolished. This work developed in the area of ​​peasant education seeks to reflect role of rural schools as a mechanism to build the local identity and expectations of young peasants and their communities. Nowadays the young man's departure from the countryside to the city has still been a constant reality, and in the municipality of Piracema, state of Minas Gerais is no different. The central issue to be presented and discussed in this article is to comes to rethink the insertion of the rural school context in the field of socioenvironmental and humanities education and the specificity of rural education as an element to question the exit of the Young peasant to the city, either for lack of expectations, or for the purpose of completing their studies. The methodology used was: bibliographic and documentary research, field work and semi-structured interview. This paper analyzes the contributions and challenges of teaching in the rural schools of the municipal district of Piracema, with reference to the Municipal School Geraldo Ferreira das Chagas, located in the town of Bom Retiro, which still indirectly reproduces urban cultural.
