Submission guidelines and files
Submission Requirements
To standardize and strengthen author identification, Bioscience Journal has made it mandatory to include an ORCID identifier for each author in the metadata section of the submission system.
After initial verification and before the submission is sent for evaluation, authors of manuscripts without an ORCID provided in the system will be notified to register or update their records:
- ORCID registration is mandatory for all authors.
- For a submission to be considered complete, the ORCID record must contain, at a minimum, information regarding academic background and current institutional affiliation (employment, if applicable).
- Authors should access https://orcid.org to check if they already have an ORCID identifier. If necessary, they should register to obtain an ORCID for free at https://orcid.org/register.
- Identifiers must be linked to the submission platform using the full URL (e.g., https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097), granting permission for the system to validate the record directly with orcid.org.
The following statements must be submitted on the Title Page at the time of submission, as described in the next section:
- Authors' contributions: A statement indicating the specific contributions of each author to the work using the CRediT taxonomy. Details in the Authors' contribution and responsibility section.
- Justification for not using the CRediT taxonomy: Mandatory if the author contribution statement did not use the required standardized terms. Details in the Authors' contribution and responsibility section.
- Funding sources and conflicts of interest: Authors must disclose all funding sources that supported the research, as well as any financial and non-financial relationships or activities that might represent a potential conflict of interest. Details in the conflicts of interest section.
- Informed Consent Form: When reporting studies involving human participants, authors must state that informed consent was obtained, as applicable, and that participant privacy was protected. Details in the research involving humans and animals section.
- Clinical trial and study registration: For clinical trials and other prospective studies, registration in a public database before the recruitment of the first participant is required. Authors must provide the study registration number. Details in the Clinical trial registration section.
- Ethical statement for research involving humans and animals: Authors must declare that the research was conducted according to relevant ethical guidelines and was approved by an institutional ethics committee or equivalent. Details in the research involving humans and animals section.
- Data availability: Authors are required to provide a statement on the availability of the data supporting the results of the article, including where and how the data can be accessed, if applicable. Details in the Data availability policy section.
- AI use statement: Authors must disclose the use of Artificial Intelligence tools in the preparation of the manuscript or in conducting the research, detailing how the tools were used. Details in the Use of artificial intelligence tools section.
- Text revision certificate (to be sent after preliminary acceptance): Mandatory for texts revised by specialized companies or professionals, or when requested by editors, regardless of the authors' nationality. Details in the Language policies section.
Required files
Authors must note the documents required for the different stages of the submission and publication process, as presented in the table below, and follow the guidelines for file preparation.
General requirements:
- All documents must be prepared using Microsoft Word. The text must be justified, typed in Calibri font, size 12, with single line spacing and 2.54 cm margins throughout the document.
- All text within figures, charts, and tables (such as axis labels, annotations, cell content) must use Calibri font, size 12, with single spacing.
